Across multiple galleries you will be transported through history with plenty to explore and experience: learn more about Kiwi beach culture; try your hand at yacht design; and get a feel for life as a sailor, as you brace yourself in a rocking 1840's replica ship cabin. But beyond the excellent exhibits and cool interactive displays, there’s nothing quite like actually being out on the water. To enjoy it first hand, book your passage aboard one of the museum heritage sailing vessels, which take off every day of the week. 

You can lend a hand on deck, helping the crew to hoist the sails aboard replica scow Ted Ashby, or sit back and enjoy a gentle cruise aboard vintage motor launch Nautilus. Trips take one hour, heads out to the Auckland harbour bridge, and is suitable for all ages, with life jackets provided for safety.

When you need to refuel, there’s organic coffee, a refreshing selection of teas and a range of tasty cabinet food at the museum’s Koel cafe. Light and spacious, with floor to ceiling windows, you’ll be able to watch the comings and goings on the busy waterfront as you eat.
